Success for Percius artists in recent performances

21 December 2012

Merry Christmas!

I Fagiolini and The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble have received critical acclaim for their recent concerts.

I Fagiolini premièred their latest show, 'The Little Match Girl Passion', for Opera North in Spitalfields Festival on 14 December, which was reviewed favourably by the press:

“a rivetingly intense experience”

The Telegraph

“wonderfully assured performances”

The Guardian

“When the five excellent singers of Robert Hollingworth’s I Fagiolini sang magical unaccompanied Bach (the contrapuntal marvels of Jesu, meine Freude) and German and Danish carols at the Spitalfields Music Winter Festival — their clear voices cut like icicles through the cold air of St Leonard’s Church.”

Richard Morrison, The Times

The show includes music by David Lang, The Little Match Girl Passion, who has recently been announced as Musical America's Composer of the Year for 2012. I Fagiolini perform 'The Little Match Girl Passion' for the final time this year tonight in the Warwick Arts Centre.

The York Press reported that ECSE's 'German Baroque Christmas' recital, which was performed in the National Centre for Early Music, York and King's Place, London was "spine-tingling" and "exquisite". ECSE were joined by countertenor Mark Chambers who performed seasonal favourites by Schütz and Praetorius, including In Dulci Jubilo. In both venues, the audience were even encouraged to join in the singing!

Merry Christmas from the Percius team and see you in 2013!
