Musica Viva today launches its 2015 season celebrating the 70th anniversary of MV’s concert promotions in Australia. Re-inviting beloved past performers including Maxim Vengerov, Steven Isserlis & Tafelmusik, Musica Viva’s season also features I Fagiolini in their national touring debut for the organisation.

Carl Vine (Artistic Director, Musica Viva) “In 2015 we celebrate the 70 years in which Musica Viva has brought the world’s finest chamber music to Australia, and there is much to celebrate! We will honour this landmark year in Musica Viva’s history in a number of ways, the first being to bring back our most admired and loved performers of recent times in the 2015 International Concert Series, with one exciting group that is completely new to Musica Viva.”

Touring from 28 July to 8 August 2015 I Fagiolini is acclaimed for its fearless performances of music that demands the utmost from its singers. “Their program spans the full compass of music for combined solo voices, starting with the Renaissance and ending with new music by Australian composer Andrew Schultz, commissioned especially for this tour by Geoff Stearn,” says Mr Vine. “We welcome I Fagiolini to our 2015 line-up and I’m confident that our audiences will love their musicianship and panache", he says.

With a characteristic mix of old and new, tossing early madrigals in with spectacular new works to create a delicious musical salad, director Robert Hollingworth will lead the audience effortlessly through countries and centuries! He pays tribute to Great Britain with Adrian Williams’ extraordinary Hymn to Awe (commissioned for, and first performed as part of, How Like an Angel with C!RCA for the Cultural Olympiad in 2012), and the exquisite sentiments of Inheritance - Herbert Howell’s contribution to the Queen’s coronation. Alongside works by Victoria, Gibbons, Poulenc and Monteverdi, the concert features a new piece by Australian composer Andrew Schultz with text by Timothy Knapman, which has been commissioned especially for I Fagiolini and Musica Viva by Geoff Stearn.
